What is a CSA farm?
Simply put, it’s Community Supported Agriculture. There is absolutely nothing like the experience of buying your produce directly from your local farmer and that’s exactly how this works. You can subscribe as a member to our farm as early as February. It’s a first come first serve basis, so you’ll want to contact us sooner rather than later to ensure your membership for the 2011 growing season.
The money from your membership is collected in the spring so that we can purchase seed, supplies and maintain our farm equipment for the season. In early June we begin deliveries of fresh organic fruits and veggies to a local drop off spot where we will be waiting to hand deliver your food for that week.
What are the benefits of being a member of a CSA farm?
Well, with our csa farm you’ll receive seasonal produce. There’s no way we’ll give you eggplants in February or radishes in July. We’ll most likely give you vegetables you’ve never tried before and for that purpose we post lots of yummy recipes on our farm newsletter/farm blog each week, so that none of your lovely produce goes to waste. You’ll try new things and expand your knowledge of the delightful world of homemade farm fresh foods. Our produce just tastes better and is better for you because we won’t use pesticides or chemical fertilizers. You’ll still need to wash everything that you get each week, but you don’t have to worry about chemicals in your veggies. Yuck!
That said, it is a good idea to support local and organic farms. We are here and we love what we do and who we meet along the way. Our members are some of the most amazing people I’ve met here in Douglas County because they support a system that promotes health, not only in their own lives, but in the lives of others. Our members volunteer at Umpqua Watersheds, they work at Mercy Hospital, they raise children, they move mountains! We wouldn’t be here if you weren’t!
We welcome volunteers to help us throughout the season so that it runs smoothly and without a hitch!
Here’s a general list of what we grow here at Ohmygato farm:
mixed salad greens, peas, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, rainbow chard, heirloom summer squash, strawberries, apples, pears, peppers, heirloom tomatoes, eggplant, cantaloupe, basil, italian parsley, several varieties of head lettuces, chives, onions, garlic, cucumbers, beets, kohlrabi, radish, turnips, cabbage, collard greens, potatoes..phew! that’s not to mention our fall crops, which will be available to purchase at the Umpqua Farmer’s Market and the Winston-Dillard market throughout the summer and fall months.
The season runs 16 weeks, from June – September
