Farm Update, May 30th

Saturday, May 30th, 2009 by admin

Hello Everyone!! Great news! We’ll be able to start deliveries this coming week beginning on Thursday, June 4th. Sorry about the flip flop.. we wanted to make sure that we’d have enough variety in the first boxes, but since the weather has been pretty incredible (no late frosts) this entire month so we thought it best to start a little earlier. If this is a problem for you, please let us know as soon as possible.
The boxes will be delivered by 5pm each Thursday. We’ve been so lucky because one of our lovely Members has volunteered her house as our Roseburg drop off spot. This helps us out tremendously! THANK YOU OLYMPIA!!
I’ll send out an email to each you with a complete list of whose box is going where. There are a few people who’ll be picking their box up at our farm in Winston. If anyone would prefer to do that we’d be happy to keep your box here.
Most likely we’ll make early deliveries, but this could vary throughout the season so we’ll have to keep you all posted at least for the first few weeks until things settle a bit.

The Winston/Dillard Growers Market begins on June 9th in the parking lot outside of the Antique Mall near Abbey’s Pizza. The signs went up today and we hope to be there along with other growers. Come out and meet us and pick up some organic spring salad greens mix. I think we’ll also be selling tomato plants. Definitely check it out.

See you this Thursday!!

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to all of you very cool mom’s out there!! Ohmygato!! Things are rolling along here on the farm. I’m posting lots of pics so our Gato Farm Friends can see the progress. Also, I’d like to remind all of our wonderful members that deliveries will begin, Thursday, June 11th. Our first delivery day is fast approaching, so I have a little favor to ask all of you: Could you please email Anthony and send us a complete address where you’d like your box to be delivered. Do this even if you think we have that information. Also include daytime phone numbers. DO NOT COMMENT ON THIS BLOG because we don’t get the messages. Please make sure you email the info to Anthony by the end of this week. This would be immensely helpful, since we’ve decided to do home deliveries. We’re hoping that a couple or few of you live close enough that we might be able to drop off a few boxes in one location.. I’ll just wait for your information before we start organizing that.
The farm update consists of so many items that I don’t know where to begin! We’ve just about filled up all our memberships for the season, which is incredible. We weren’t sure how things were going to go given the state of the economy, so we were really keeping our fingers crossed in March & April, but then the calls started coming in. I’m so impressed with our community! Next year though we really need people to sign up a little earlier and to keep in mind that the money is usually spent before the food is in the ground…seeds, tractor maintenance, irrigation stuff, etc..
That said, we were able to get our tractor fixed and since it’s been home we haven’t stopped working. Anthony has been putting in 12 hour days in order to put the deer fence up and get the ground ready for planting. We’re now happily putting our lovely little starts into the ground. Today we’re putting in mixed salad greens, radish, spinache, head lettuces, beets and carrots. Speaking of planting, I have to get to work. See you all very soon!
I hope this update finds you all happy, healthy and filled with the warmth of these long spring days!!
